Dr Wright is an internationally recognized leader in softening suffering and promoting healing in individuals, couples, and families. With a passion for helping families navigate illness suffering and healing, she has traveled the world, sharing her knowledge and learning from diverse cultural perspectives. As a writer, speaker, and therapist, she continues to shape the future of family healthcare through her work.

When she’s not counselling or speaking, Lorraine enjoys time with her family and friends, embracing her roles as an aunt, great-aunt, sister, and friend. She also loves exploring new countries – her goal is to visit 100!

A Legacy of Family Healing

Dr. Wright’s passion for family nursing was inspired by her childhood experience growing up in a multi-generational home. Witnessing her grandmother’s struggle with rheumatoid arthritis shaped her deep understanding of chronic illness, suffering, and the impact it has on families. This early experience led her to pursue a career in nursing, earning degrees from the University of Alberta, the University of Hawaii, and Brigham Young University.

Dr. Lorraine M. Wright, Professor Emerita at the University of Calgary, has been awarded the Order of Canada for her groundbreaking work in family nursing. As a visionary in the field, she has dedicated her career to integrating family systems into healthcare, reducing illness suffering, and fostering healing conversations worldwide. From founding the Family Nursing Unit at the  University of Calgary to educating practitioners across 82 countries, Dr. Wright’s influence has shaped the future of compassionate, holistic care.

To honor her profound impact on family nursing, the Lorraine M. Wright Family Nursing Scholarship was established at the University of Calgary. This endowed scholarship supports Master’s and PhD students specializing in family nursing, ensuring her legacy of compassionate, evidence-based care continues to inspire future generations.
